In the recently concluded elections for Purchase and Sale Cooperative Societies in Uttarakhand, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) delivered a stellar performance, securing victory in 98 percent of the boards and firmly establishing its dominance.
The key highlights of these elections are as follows:
• **Historic Uncontested Elections:** For the first time in 68 years, the entire executive bodies of the Jaunpur Magra Cooperative Society in Tehri and the Landhaur Cooperative Society in Haridwar were elected unopposed—an achievement being hailed as a major milestone.
• **Election Statistics:** Elections were successfully conducted in 38 out of the total 39 cooperative societies across the state. A total of 348 representatives were elected to the Board of Directors, comprising 136 women and 212 men.
• **Chairpersons and Vice-Chairpersons:** 37 representatives (16 women, 21 men) were elected to the post of Chairperson, while 25 representatives (2 women, 23 men) were elected as Vice-Chairpersons.
• **District-wise Performance:** Udham Singh Nagar saw the highest number of elected representatives at 111, followed by Nainital with 99. Additionally, 418 representatives have been nominated to various other institutions.
**Statement by the Minister of Cooperatives:**
The state’s Minister of Cooperatives, Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat, attributed this resounding victory to the hard work of party workers and the government’s pro-people policies. He stated that this success would play a pivotal role in realizing the vision encapsulated in the mantra of ‘Sahakar se Samriddhi’ (Prosperity through Cooperation), championed by the Prime Minister and the Union Minister of Cooperatives
