A meeting chaired by Chief Secretary Shri Anand Bardhan was held to boost winter tourism in Uttarakhand and establish the state as a premier year-round tourist destination. Detailed discussions took place regarding the development of new tourist sites, tourism products, and activities.
The Chief Secretary stated that to alleviate pressure on major tourist destinations like Nainital and Mussoorie, new and lesser-known destinations should be developed and effectively promoted. He directed that areas with potential for winter tourism be identified in collaboration with GMVN, KMVN, and tourism stakeholders, and that facilities and activities be developed based on their unique selling points (USPs).
He issued instructions to promote new trekking routes, high-altitude marathons, bird watching, as well as nature and adventure tourism. Emphasis was also placed on fostering employment and encouraging reverse migration by integrating local communities into tourism development.
The Chief Secretary directed that lessons be drawn from successful models of international tourist destinations and that a tourism circuit package be developed by linking Jageshwar, Kasar Devi, and the Sun Temple.
