The Gorkha Democratic Front formally merged with the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Dehradun. At the party headquarters, the Front’s Central President, Mr. Surya Vikram Shahi, handed over the merger document to the BJP State President and Rajya Sabha MP, Mr. Mahendra Bhatt. Subsequently, Mr. Shahi and other office-bearers of the Front were inducted into the BJP.
Welcoming the merger, State President Mahendra Bhatt described it as a significant step towards the expansion of the organization. He stated that this move would strengthen the BJP and assist the party in forming its third consecutive government in the upcoming assembly elections. He also assured the leaders and workers of the Gorkha community that they would be accorded due respect.
Surya Vikram Shahi stated that the Front decided to merge with the BJP, inspired by the development initiatives being undertaken under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, as well as by the Sanatan ideology. He affirmed his commitment to standing firmly with the BJP for the development of Uttarakhand and the welfare of the Gorkha community.
During the event, a one-minute silence was observed to pay tribute to those who lost their lives in the natural disaster in Nepal. The BJP appealed for all possible assistance to be extended to the victims.
