The country’s Chief Election Commissioner, Mr. Gyanesh Kumar, held a high-level review meeting at the Bijapur State Guest House in Dehradun regarding preparations for the upcoming SIR (Special Summary Revision).
Key Highlights of the Meeting:
• **Purification of the Electoral Roll:** The Chief Election Commissioner clarified that the primary objective of the SIR is to render the electoral roll error-free. Under this initiative, voters categorized as Absent, Shifted, Deceased, Duplicate, or Overseas voters will be identified and removed from the list.
• **Appeal to the Public:** He appealed to all voters in the state to extend their full cooperation to the BLOs (Booth Level Officers) during the upcoming SIR campaign and to provide their latest passport-sized photographs.
• **Status of Preparations:** During the meeting, the Chief Electoral Officer, Dr. B.V.R.C. Purushottam, informed that 89% of the mapping work under the pre-SIR phase has been completed across the state. The printing of forms has been finalized, and the first phase of training for officials (DEOs, EROs, etc.) has concluded, while the training for BLOs is currently underway.
• **Awareness and Directives:** A voter awareness campaign is being conducted throughout the state. District Election Officers have been issued strict directives to hold weekly meetings with political parties.
Senior officials from the administration and police—including Chief Secretary Anand Vardhan, ADG Dr. V. Murugesan, District Magistrate of Dehradun Savin Bansal, and the newly appointed District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan—were present at this meeting.
