Nainital: Uttarakhand High Court heard the petition of Abhishek Singh, candidate for the post of President of District Panchayat Dehradun, against the state government fixing reservation in the district panchayats across the state without following the rules of reservation. While hearing the case, the division bench of Chief Justice G Narendra and Justice Alok Mehra has asked the state government and the State Election Commission to submit their reply with an affidavit before the next hearing. After hearing the case, the division bench has fixed the date of August 11 for the next hearing.
At the hearing held today, State Election Commission advocate Sanjay Bhatt ji, while presenting the side of the commission, said that the reservation for the post of President of District Panchayats has been decided. Their nomination is to be done on August 11. Voting and its result is to be declared on August 14. On which the court fixed the date of August 11 for hearing the case. Also, the state and the commission have been asked to present their reply on the allegations made in the petition.
According to the case, Abhishek Singh, candidate for the post of Zila Panchayat Adhyaksh of Dehradun district, has filed a petition in the High Court. In which he said that reservation in his district has been given by ignoring the rules. This reservation is against the rules. This should be stopped. The High Court heard this matter today. In which a reply has been sought from the State Election Commission.
According to the final reservation list released by the Panchayati Raj Department on August 6, the post of president in Dehradun, Pauri, Almora, Rudraprayag and Tehri Garhwal has been reserved for general women. The post of Bageshwar Zila Panchayat Adhyaksh has been reserved for Scheduled Caste women. Pithoragarh has been reserved for Scheduled Caste, Udham Singh Nagar for OBC. Apart from this, the post of president in Uttarkashi, Nainital, Chamoli and Champawat has been unreserved.
