Uttarakhand Congress Senior Vice President Suryakant Dhasmana leveled serious allegations against the BJP, stating that the ‘purification’ of the rally venue at Haldwani’s Ramlila Ground was carried out under the government’s patronage.
Speaking to reporters, Dhasmana said that following Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge’s rally on August 8, BJP-backed unruly elements committed the offense of promoting untouchability by performing a *havan* and sprinkling *Gangajal* (holy water from the Ganges) at the venue. He described a recent statement by State BJP President Mahendra Bhatt as a direct admission of this act and alleged that the BJP is intent on shielding the perpetrators.
He asserted that the Congress would expose the BJP’s anti-Dalit, anti-backward, and anti-Constitution mindset across the country. Citing the stance taken by Rahul Gandhi, the Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha, he warned that if strict action is not taken against those responsible, the Congress would launch a nationwide agitation.
