The Dhami government has accelerated efforts to finalize the ‘Rishikesh Master Plan’ to ensure the planned development of the city, which is a major hub for religion and tourism. Acting on the Chief Minister’s directives, Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar held a review meeting with the Dehradun, Tehri, and Pauri Garhwal development authorities and issued instructions for the speedy resolution of pending issues.
Discussions regarding the Master Plan covered aspects such as road widths, building heights, traffic management, parking facilities, and the planning of residential and commercial activities. For the Tehri region, a proposal has been made to allow building heights in accordance with standards applicable to plains areasโconsidering the presence of the National Highwayโwhereas in the Pauri region adjacent to Rajaji National Park, building heights will be restricted due to environmental sensitivities.
The Housing Secretary emphasized that the Master Plan is not merely a document regarding land use but the foundation for future sustainable development. Its primary objective is to provide modern amenities to residents and tourists while preserving Rishikesh’s spiritual character and environment.
