Rain has wreaked havoc in Uttarakhand, especially in the hilly districts. 111 roads have been closed due to debris after the rain. At the same time, Rishikesh-Yamunotri National Highway could not be opened even after three days.
The problems of local villagers have increased due to the closure of roads in the rain. Pilgrims are also stranded due to the non-opening of Rishikesh-Yamunotri National Highway. According to the State Emergency Operations Center, eight rural roads are closed in Rudraprayag district.
According to the local administration, efforts are being made to open the closed roads. 9 rural roads in Uttarkashi, 21 in Chamoli, 3 in Pithoragarh, 1 state highway and 3 rural roads in Almora, 12 in Bageshwar, 4 in Champawat, 25 in Pauri Garhwal, 1 in Nainital, 1 state highway and 9 rural roads in Dehradun, 13 rural roads in Tehri are closed due to debris.
On Saturday, due to cloudburst near Silai Band, the roads were closed at various places and more than 850 passengers were stranded from Syanachatti to Janakichatti. After the resumption of pedestrian movement on Tuesday, the administration and police team have started evacuating the passengers safely from there.
By Tuesday evening, about 600 to 700 passengers have been sent to Barkot in safe vehicles. Now, according to the administration, about 150 to 200 passengers are expected to be at safe places. District Disaster Management Officer Shardul Gusain said that after the opening of the pedestrian route, passengers are being safely evacuated from the landslide areas.
