School Education Minister Dr. Dhan Singh Rawat issued significant directives during a departmental review meeting at the Directorate of Education to address the issue regarding the mandatory Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) for serving teachers. He instructed departmental officials to engage in constructive dialogue with teachers’ associations to formulate a coherent proposal and to study models adopted by other states. This move is expected to resolve a major issue affecting approximately 20,000 teachers in the state.
Other key highlights of the meeting:
• Promotions and Legal Representation: Instructions were given to ensure robust legal representation in court cases concerning teacher promotions so that teachers can receive the benefits of promotion without delay.
• PGI Ranking: Directives were issued to begin preparations immediately to improve the state’s standing in the upcoming Performance Grading Index (PGI) ranking, with a special focus on learning outcomes and governance.
• Other Directives: Dr. Rawat ordered that the participation of every student in three distinct activities be ensured, the goal of 100% literacy in the state be achieved, and all forms of teacher attachments be mandatorily terminated by June 30.
Senior officials from the Education Department attended the meeting and were instructed to ensure compliance with these directives within the stipulated timeframe
