Dehradun: In the meeting of 16th Finance Commission with the representatives of political parties, the state Congress gave many suggestions for the economy of the state. Congress was requested to give the benefit of economic package to Uttarakhand by giving it special state status.
On behalf of Congress, state vice president organization Suryakant Dhasmana informed in the suggestion letter submitted to the Finance Commission that the state of Uttarakhand has covered a journey of 25 years. Today the budget of the state has increased 24 times from the size of the budget of the first year of the formation of the state. Despite this, migration is a big problem in the state.
67 percent of the state’s land is forest area. The cultivable land in the state is only 33 percent, most of which is non-irrigated. Due to the presence of National Park, National Sanctuary and reserved forest area in the state, development activities are very limited. In view of this, a separate cost sensitivity coefficient should be determined for the hill state.
Due to adverse geographical conditions and low population density in the hill districts, the local bodies should be given relaxation in the prescribed population norms in the Gram Panchayats, District Panchayats, Blocks, Municipalities and Nagar Panchayat areas. A special anti-migration development plan should be implemented to prevent migration. State spokesperson Giriraj Kishore Hindwan was also present in the Congress delegation.
