On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Rajiv Gandhi Study Circle, Dehradun, organized a massive cleanliness drive spanning the area from Rajpur Diversion to Old Mussoorie Road. Led by State Student Secretary Supriya Dhasmana, the team collected and disposed of plastic waste and other refuse. Senior Congress leader Suryakant Dhasmana inaugurated the event by personally participating in the cleanup.
Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Dhasmana praised the ‘Say No to Plastic’ campaign and emphasized that environmental conservation must begin at home. He advocated for the proper segregation and disposal of wet and dry, as well as organic and inorganic, waste. Describing plastic as a major threat to the environment, he stressed the need for public awareness to protect future generations from pollution.
Highlighting Uttarakhand’s environmental contribution, Mr. Dhasmana noted that 67 percent of the state’s land is covered by forests and that it is home to several major rivers and national parks, all of which play a crucial role in maintaining the global environmental balance. He called for the state to receive a ‘Green Bonus’ in recognition of this contribution. Supriya Dhasmana stated that the ‘Clean Doon-Green Doon’ initiative would not be a one-day event but a continuous campaign carried out across the state through the power of the youth. Numerous volunteers and local residents participated in the program with great enthusiasm.
