A tobacco prohibition awareness workshop was organized by the District Tobacco Control Cell and the CMO office at the School of Technology and Engineering, Shri Guru Ram Rai (SGRR) University, Dehradun.
The event was inaugurated by Chief Medical Officer (CMO) Dr. Manoj Kumar Sharma and Dean Dr. Sonika Kandari. Cautioning the youth, CMO Dr. Sharma stated that tobacco is detrimental to both physical and mental health. He urged them to remain vigilant against the tactics employed by companies to turn young people and children into new customers.
Psychologist Dr. Anuradha delivered a presentation detailing the harmful effects of tobacco. Poster-making and Rangoli competitions were also organized for the students, and the winners were awarded prizes.
On this occasion, SGRR University was declared a ‘Tobacco-Free University’ in compliance with the COTPA Act and the guidelines for tobacco-free educational institutions. College faculty members and officials from the Health Department were present at the event.
