On the occasion of World Environment Day, the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) launched a massive plantation drive, advancing Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami’s vision of a “Green Uttarakhand – Clean Uttarakhand.” The MDDA planted approximately 300 saplings—comprising fruit-bearing, shade-providing, and medicinal species—in the Nalapani area along Sahastradhara Road. Authority officials, staff members, and personnel from the ‘Garhwal Greeners’ (127 Infantry Battalion) actively participated in this campaign.
MDDA Vice-Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari emphasized that tree plantation is not merely a one-day event but a continuous responsibility. He stated that the survival and care of the planted saplings would be ensured and that the site would be developed into a green park in the future. He urged citizens to pledge to plant at least one sapling in their vicinity and to nurture it.
Moving beyond its traditional role of construction, the Authority is now actively engaged in developing new green parks in the capital, planting ornamental shrubs on road dividers, and working towards environmental balance. Secretary Mohan Singh Barnia remarked that public participation is crucial to transforming the Doon Valley into an eco-friendly model city. This initiative by the MDDA marks a significant step towards increasing Dehradun’s green cover and ensuring a clean environment.
