Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami met with local potters on Diwali, giving new impetus to the Swadeshi movement. Visiting potter’s shops on Chakrata Road, he purchased traditional earthen lamps and discussed their problems with the shopkeepers in detail. Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami said, “Local potters have made beautiful clay lamps, idols, other decorative items, and puja materials. These are indigenous products, which are environmentally friendly and a symbol of cultural heritage. This year, there has been a lot of shopping. I spoke with shopkeepers here. They told me that their sales were higher than in previous years.
The Prime Minister’s call for Swadeshi has made everyone happy and excited. People across the country, and even in Uttarakhand, have purchased indigenous products. Due to the GST exemption, people have shopped extensively this Diwali. There was a huge demand for clay lamps across the country and in Uttarakhand as well.
“This Diwali, indigenous products, instead of Chinese goods, captured the market,” Dhami emphasized, adding that this initiative is an important step towards strengthening Uttarakhand’s rural economy. The potter community, which has been molding clay into an art form for centuries, has often faced market pressures.
The CM’s visit proved to be a morale booster for the artisans. By making their purchases, they not only offered personal support but also inspired other citizens. Dhami emphasized that Swadeshi not only increases local employment but also protects the environment. Burning earthen lamps instead of plastic ones reduces pollution.
