Roads of more than five kilometers in length in the state are not getting permission for second phase reconstruction. Due to this, the work of hundreds of roads is pending. According to Rajesh Sharma, Chief Engineer of Public Works Department, the department has limited budget for reconstruction of roads. This is the reason why approval for second phase for reconstruction of roads is not being given. Many roads in the state, which are already facing the brunt of disaster, are in bad condition. Not only is there debris on the roads at many places, but there has also been land subsidence at some places. Potholes on the roads during rainy season are also the cause of accidents. In such a situation, roads of more than five kilometers in the state are neither being asphalted nor reconstructed. According to Mahesh Jeena, MLA from Salt, hundreds of roads are not being renovated and reconstructed. If five kilometers of road is asphalted, then the road beyond that gets damaged. He said, road work should be done at one go. Public Works Department officials say that in view of the limited financial resources of the state, there is a provision of not proposing motor roads of more than five kilometers for second phase approval. Chief Engineer of Public Works Department Rajesh Sharma said that the department has limited budget. If more budget is spent on one road, then how will work be done on other roads. This is the reason why the government has set a standard of five kilometers for the renovation and reconstruction of roads. Dudhli-Motharowala road is also in bad condition The Dudhli-Motharowala road connecting many villages of Dudhli area to Dehradun city is also in bad condition. There is a danger of accidents due to the potholes near Naunka and Firing Range on the road. According to local people, this is an alternative route from Rishikesh, Haridwar to Dehradun, but the department has not taken care of this road for years
