The Social Welfare Department of Uttarakhand has launched a special initiative to integrate students residing in Scheduled Caste (SC) and Scheduled Tribe (ST) hostels with modern education. In the first phase, digital classrooms, modern libraries, and reading rooms will be established in 15 such hostels across the state.
According to Dr. Sridhar Babu Addanki, Secretary of the Social Welfare Department, these hostels will be equipped with LED screens, laptops, Wi-Fi, and high-speed internet. The libraries will house not only curriculum-based textbooks but also resources for preparing for competitive examinations, such as those conducted by the UPSC, UKPSC, and SSC, as well as banking exams.
Beyond the hostel residents, this initiative will also benefit youth from the surrounding rural and remote areas. The departmentโs primary objective is to transform these hostels from mere residential facilities into excellent hubs for digital learning and preparation for competitive examinations.
