In the Sahaspur and Vikasnagar blocks of the district, the Rashtriya Krishi Vikas Yojana (National Agriculture Development Scheme) is proving to be a boon for farmers. Thanks to an initiative by the Agriculture Department, farmers who shifted from traditional farming methods to cultivating hybrid paddy have witnessed a record 39 percent increase in their income.
According to Chief Agriculture Officer Devendra Rana, hybrid paddy cultivation was introduced across a 70-hectare area spanning 20 Gram Panchayats during the 2025-26 fiscal year. The results have astonished everyone; while the yield per hectare previously stood at 45 quintals, it has now surged to reach 62 quintals. In economic terms, the average income per hectare for farmers has risen from โน81,000 to โน1.13 lakh.
Hybrid seeds not only deliver higher yields but are also more resistant to pests and diseases. Encouraged by this success, the department has now decided to expand the scope of this initiative to cover an area of โโ186 hectares. This application of modern techniques has transformed farming into a profitable venture in rural areas, thereby inspiring other farmers to follow suit
