Nainital: Uttarakhand State Election Commission has declared the election results for the post of Nainital District Panchayat President and Vice President today on Tuesday 19 August. While BJP’s Deepa Darmwal has won the post of District Panchayat President, Congress’s Devki Bisht has won the post of Vice President.
Let us tell you that the election for the post of Nainital District Panchayat President and Vice President was held on 14 August. After voting, the Election Commission had done the counting of votes on the same day, but did not declare the election results, rather the election results were kept in a sealed envelope in a double locker. However, today the Election Commission declared the election results and BJP candidate Deepa Darmwal was declared victorious for the post of Nainital District Panchayat President. Deepa Darmwal won by one vote.
According to the Election Commission, a total of 22 members had voted, out of which the BJP candidate got 11 votes and the Congress candidate got 10 votes. At the same time, one vote was declared invalid. In this way, Deepa Darmwal emerged victorious by just one vote. This victory in the election for the post of District Panchayat President is being considered a big relief for the BJP, because for the last several days, there was a situation of constant controversy, allegations and tension regarding this election. The matter even reached the Uttarakhand High Court and the hearing is still pending. Due to this, despite the results, the legal situation is still awaited to be clear.
Congress on the post of Vice President: At the same time, Congress has maintained its hold on the post of Vice President. Congress candidate Devaki Bisht was elected Vice President. Security was tightened in Nainital before the declaration of the results of the District Panchayat President and Vice President elections. The Collectorate and Treasury premises were converted into a cantonment and police force was deployed. To avoid any untoward incident, policemen kept patrolling on foot, while drone cameras were also installed for surveillance from the sky.
Before the results were declared, the administration and the police remained in full alert mode. Continuous checking was done from the polling station to outside the premises in the security circle, so that the atmosphere remains peaceful and safe and there is no disturbance of any kind.
In fact, five district panchayat members disappeared in the middle of the elections on August 14. Both Congress and BJP had accused each other of alleged kidnapping of district panchayat members. Congress had also approached the High Court on this matter on August 14 itself. The High Court had also issued some guidelines to the Election Commission, after which the Election Commission did not declare the result after the counting of votes. Yesterday also, the matter was heard in the High Court. The court had also sought an affidavit from the Nainital SSP and the District Magistrate, raising questions on law and order.
