Dhanaulti: Due to the sudden flood in Khirganga of Uttarkashi on August 5, Dharali, the main stop of Gangotri Dham, has now turned into rubble. In which many people are still missing. Such disaster has also come in Uttarakhand in the past. The Kedarnath disaster of 2013 and the Raini disaster of 2021 are recent examples of this. But the greatest danger is for those who are settled on the banks of rivers like the town Dharali.
One such example is Thatyud Bazaar of Jaunpur development block of Tehri district, which is situated on the banks of Aglad river. During the terrible disaster in 2013, the Aglad river took a terrible form. Due to which many hectares of inhabited irrigated land around the river were destroyed. Along with this, foot bridges were also washed away. During this time, due to the flood in the Aglad river, some parts of the residential buildings of Thatyud market were engulfed. The memory of which has been refreshed once again by the rising water level of Aglad river due to continuous rain in the area. The situation is such that due to the rain for the last few days, the water level of Aglad river has now reached close to the residential buildings of Thatyud, due to which people are in panic.
Local residents Khemraj Bhatt, Kulveer Singh Rawat informed that during the terrible disaster in Uttarakhand in 2013, several hectares of irrigated land of Paligad and Dashjula area was washed away due to the Aglad river. Along with this, the Gwana-Bhawan bridge, Bandachak-Sataagad bridge, the bridge built on Bhumya Naame Tok near Thatyud were also washed away. Along with this, the residential buildings of Thatyud market and the 33 KV electricity substation were also damaged. But even after 12 years of the disaster, no work could be done on it. The local people have demanded several times to build a flood protection embankment on the banks of the Aglad river from Bhawan to Thatyud. But till date the work on it has not started, due to which the local people are very angry.
Agalad river is the longest river of this region, which meets the Yamuna river. Many other small khaderas along with the big Chulyani, Bilundi gadera of the region meet in Aglad river. During the rainy season, Aglad river takes a terrible form. Two local rivers Belgar, Paligad river also meet in Aglad river near Thatyud. This place is also called Triveni here. There is also a temple of Lord Shiva at this place.
On this matter, Dhanaulti MLA Pritam Singh Panwar said that its proposal and DPR from the State Disaster Management Department has been sent to the Government of India. As soon as approval is received, the work of building a protection embankment will be started on it.
