Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) successfully organized BIS–StartUps Meet at IIT Roorkee with the objective to strengthen collaboration between the startup ecosystem and BIS and promote innovation and standardization.
The event commenced with a video presentation on the activities of BIS. This was followed by lighting of the lamp by Chief Guest Shri Chandan Bahl, Deputy Director General (IR), BIS, Guest of Honour Shri Deepak Kumar Agarwal, Head SCMD BIS, Shri Saurabh Tiwari, Head BIS Dehradun, Prof. Deepak Khare, BIS Chair Professor and Shri Azam Ali Khan, CEO, TIDES, IIT Roorkee.
In his welcome address, Prof. Deepak Khare highlighted the historic role of IIT Roorkee and its contribution in promoting startups.
Shri Deepak Kumar Agarwal, Head (SCMD), BIS highlighted the objectives of the event and highlighted the opportunities for collaboration between BIS and innovation-based enterprises to strengthen the quality framework and promote industry readiness.
Mr. Saurabh Tiwari gave information about the industrial scenario of Uttarakhand and government policies and emphasized the benefits of using standards to expand startups.
In the keynote address, Mr. Chandan Bahl thanked IIT Roorkee for its support and described standardization as the main basis for the growth of startups. He also informed that India will host the IEC General Meeting in September 2025, in which startups from across the country will be able to showcase their products in front of more than 2000 international delegates.
In the technical sessions, presentations were made on BIS’s structure, services, digital platforms and opportunities for collaboration for startups. In the interactive session, startups shared their experiences and discussed the possibilities of partnership with BIS.
The second session of the program was graced by the presence of Mr. Ashutosh Sharma, former Secretary, Department of Science and Technology. In his address, he elaborated on the various financial assistance schemes and funds available for the expansion of technology and research work for startups.
The presence of over 100 participants including IIT Roorkee, Graphic Era Deemed University, Dolphin Institute, UPES and Startup Uttarakhand made the event vibrant.
The event proved to be a significant step towards establishing a strong bridge between innovation and standardization, laying the foundation for future collaborative initiatives
