Dehradun: From today, children in government and non-government schools of the state will read Shrimad Bhagavad Gita in the prayer meetings. Along with reciting its shlokas, they will also be given information about the scientific approach by explaining its meaning. Director of Secondary Education Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati has issued instructions in this regard.
The Director of Education, in the instructions given to all the Chief Education Officers, said that at least one shloka should be recited to the students every day in the prayer meeting with its meaning. While one day in a week, a value-based shloka should be declared as the shloka of the week and written on the notice board with its meaning. Students should practice it and on the last day of the week, it should be discussed and feedback should be taken.
Use of the teachings of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita and scientific approach to make better citizens
Teachers should explain the verses from time to time and inform the students about how the principles of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita develop values, behaviour, leadership skills, decision making ability, emotional balance and scientific thinking. Students should also be informed that the teachings given in Shrimad Bhagwad Gita are based on Sankhya, psychology, logic, behavioural science and moral philosophy, which are useful for the entire humanity from a secular point of view.
It should also be ensured at the school level that the verses of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita are not only taught to the students as a subject or reading material, but it should also be ensured that this effort is reflected in their life and behaviour. It should be ensured at every level that the teachings and scientific approach of Shrimad Bhagwad Gita are used for character development of students, self-control, development of balanced approach towards life, personality development, development of scientific thinking and to make them better citizens.
Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana included in the outline of the state curriculum
On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana have been included in the outline of the state curriculum. According to Director of Secondary Education Dr. Mukul Kumar Sati, it is proposed to implement the textbooks from the next academic session as per the recommendation of the state curriculum framework for school education.
The Director of Education said, under the National Education Policy-2020, the students are to be taught the basis of Indian knowledge tradition and the knowledge system, for this, action is being taken to develop curriculum and textbooks for various classes under the National Education Policy. On May 6, the Chief Minister and the Education Minister were apprised of the outline of the state curriculum, during which the Chief Minister directed to include Shrimad Bhagavad Gita and Ramayana in the curriculum under the Indian knowledge tradition.
The Director of Education said, Shrimad Bhagavad Gita has been considered a guide in every field of life. It also has a scientific basis. Which is not only a religious text but it is also an excellent text on the science of human life, psychology and behaviour, which contains scientific logic of human behaviour, decision making ability, dedication, stress management and living a prudent life. Shrimad Bhagwad Gita can prove to be a milestone in making students a good citizen in schools.
