The arrival of vegetables has decreased in Kumaon’s largest Haldwani market. The demand for vegetables is also high in the market. In such a situation, due to increase in demand and decrease in supply, the rates of vegetables have increased. Its special effect is seen on green vegetables like tomatoes, capsicum, cabbage etc. In Haldwani Naveen Mandi, vegetables are supplied from Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh etc. markets from the hills to the plains.
Vegetables are not able to reach from many places due to rain. Apart from this, some crops have also been damaged in the rain. Due to this, there has been a decrease in the arrival of vegetables.
Tomato is being sold in the market for around 60-70 rupees per kg. Capsicum is being sold between 80 to 100 rupees. Seasonal vegetables like ladyfinger is being sold for 50 kg, cabbage for 80 rupees per kg. The price of all vegetables has increased from 20% to 30%. Due to the increase in the price of vegetables, the pockets of the common people are getting loose.
Due to heavy rains, vegetable farmers have suffered huge losses. Where about 70% of the vegetable crop of the farmers has been completely ruined. Due to the increase in the price of vegetables in Haldwani market, vegetables are being sold at double the price in the mountains. This time in Ramgarh area of Nainital district, which is known for the vegetable sector, cauliflower, cabbage, pumpkin, gourd, cucumber have been spoiled due to fungus.
