Almora:-A high-speed Alto car rammed into a truck parked on the roadside near Shakti Chowk Chillianula on the Ranikhet-Jalli motor road on Wednesday morning. The driver of the car, Kundan Singh Khampa (67), sustained serious injuries in the accident. He was taken to Sub District Hospital Ranikhet. After first aid here, he was being taken to Higher Centre Sushila Tiwari Hospital Haldwani but he died on the way.
According to locals, the Alto car (UK01A8175) was coming from the direction of the Haidakhan temple. The truck (UK 05 CA 0814) was unloading construction material on the roadside near Shakti Chowk. The car coming at high speed got out of control and went straight behind the truck. The car belonged to Kundan Singh Khampa, a former employee of Ranikhet Roadways, a resident of Chilianula, and he was driving it. There was no one else in the vehicle. People rushed to the spot as soon as the incident was reported. According to doctors, the driver of the car suffered serious head injuries. He was referred to the higher centre. The ambulance took him to Sushila Tiwari Hospital (STH) Haldwani. The doctors there said that he died on the way.Kotwal Ashok Dhankhar said that the cause of the accident is being ascertained by inspecting the spot.
Then lack of CT scan facility
Due to the accident near Chilianula, there was a lack of CT scan facility. There is no CT scan machine in the sub-district hospital Ranikhet. The injured car driver needed a CT scan, so the driver had to be referred.
108 service reached long after the information
A 108 ambulance reached the spot soon after receiving the information. This caused resentment among the people. Kamlesh Bora, president of the trade division, said that the 108 ambulance did not arrive for a long time, so the injured were taken to the hospital with the help of the vehicle of councilor Sunder Kuwarbi. This has again raised the finger on the functioning of 108 service.
A wave of grief in the area
The untimely death of Kundan Singh Khampa in a car accident has caused a wave of grief in the region. Khampa has left behind his wife and two sons. The families and local residents have demanded an impartial investigation into the accident from the administration.
