Nainital: The Uttarakhand High Court has heard a PIL filed against the strike being held by junior engineers of the three corporations in UPCL over their demands. After hearing the matter, a division bench of Chief Justice G Narendra and Justice Alok Mahra issued a notice to the striking organisation. The district officer has asked Dehradun to talk to the striking employees and submit a reply.
Hearing on the strike case of junior engineers of UPCL: According to the case, Harsul Sharma, a resident of Dehradun Shiv Colony, has filed a public interest litigation saying that the junior engineers of the three corporations of Uttarakhand Power Corporation have been on strike since June 5, 2025 for their demands. So far, the government has not resolved their dispute. Innocent people are having to bear the brunt of this during the scorching heat. Not only this, when there is no electricity, people are also facing hospitals, schools, fans of houses, running wells as other problems.
The petitioner requested the High Court to end the strike: The petitioner said that the Chardham Yatra is also going on in the state. If there are no lights on the roads, an accident can also occur. In the public interest litigation, the High Court has been requested to direct the state government to end the strike of junior engineers soon. So that the problem of common citizens ends.
High Court issues notice to striking junior engineers: On this, the division bench of the High Court has issued a notice to the Union of Power Corporation that went on strike. Along with this, Dehradun DM Savin Bansal has been instructed to talk to the junior engineers who went on strike. After the talks, he should submit his answer in the High Court.
Why are junior engineers on strike? Juniors of all three corporations of UPCL i.e. Uttarakhand Power Corporation Limited are on strike over various demands. These demands mainly include removing discrepancies in the seniority list as well as opposing the privatisation proposal. Apart from these two demands, UPCL’s junior engineers are also demanding an improvement in service conditions and a fair pay scale.
