World Mental Health Day 2026 was observed by the Department of Psychiatry at Government Doon Medical College and the associated Doon Hospital. This year’s event was based on the global theme “Listen to Lived Experiences: Real Voices, Real Change,” aiming to eliminate the social stigma associated with mental health.
The college Principal, Prof. Dr. Geeta Jain, visited the psychiatry ward to inquire about the well-being of admitted patients and distributed refreshments. Describing mental health as an integral part of overall health, she emphasized the importance of societal sensitivity and timely treatment.
An awareness booth was set up in the OPD to educate the public. Additionally, a poster competition was organized for MBBS students; Vijay (Batch of 2022) was awarded the prize for the best poster, while Adnan Ahmed (Batch of 2023) was recognized for outstanding performance in psychiatry. Patients’ experiences were given special emphasis during the event, which was held under the leadership of the Head of Department, Dr. Jaya Nawani.
