A new waste collection vehicle has been handed over to the ‘Paryavaran Sakhis’ (Environment Friends) to strengthen the waste management system under the ‘Waste No More in Dehradun’ project, run by the SBI Foundation and the organization ‘Waste Warriors’ in the Raipur development block of Dehradun. The vehicle was presented during a program presided over by Block Development Officer (BDO) Aparna Bahuguna.
Key Highlights:
โข Accelerated Waste Collection: This new vehicle will facilitate the door-to-door collection of dry waste and its safe transport across 16 Gram Panchayats, ensuring regular service reaches more households.
โข Women Empowerment: The ‘Paryavaran Sakhi’ group comprises 10 local women who were previously collecting waste using e-loaders.
โข Scientific Segregation: The collected waste is transported to a center in Dhanaula, where it is segregated into 18 to 20 categories.
โข Strengthening Sanitation: Public representatives and officials hailed this initiative as a significant step towards rural sanitation and solid waste management.
