Uttarakhand Chief Secretary Anand Bardhan held a crucial meeting with Sports Department officials to strategize on preparing the state’s sports talent for the 2036 Olympics. He directed that operations be conducted in ‘mission mode,’ focusing on sports disciplines best suited to the state’s potential and geographical conditions.
Key Decisions and Guidelines:
• Scientific Selection and Training: Athletes will be identified through a transparent and scientific process involving talent hunts. In the initial phase, 100 to 150 talented children will be selected, and their training will commence immediately.
• Focus on the School Level: Sports will be robustly integrated into the school education system, and Physical Training Instructors (PTIs) will undergo sensitization and grooming to help nurture talent.
• Capacity Building for Coaches: Existing talented athletes will be trained at premier institutions to groom them into competent future coaches.
• Time-bound Monitoring: Clear timelines will be established for talent identification and coaching, accompanied by regular monitoring.
