Following the call to action by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the directives issued by Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Mussoorie-Dehradun Development Authority (MDDA) has launched an ‘Oil Conservation Campaign’ aimed at saving energy and fuel. Banshidhar Tiwari, the Authority’s Vice Chairman, has issued instructions to implement a strict action plan to ensure the prudent utilization of resources within the office and to curb wasteful expenditure.
Key Highlights of the Campaign:
• Carpooling and Cycling: Officers and employees have been urged to adopt ‘carpooling’ for their daily commute to and from the office. Employees residing in close proximity to the office are being encouraged to commute by bicycle or on foot.
• Strict Measures for Electricity Conservation: Directives have been issued to limit the usage of the centralized air conditioning system and other individual AC units at the MDDA headquarters. Staff members have been instructed to switch off lights, computers, and other electrical appliances when they are not in use.
• Reduction in the Number of Vehicles: In alignment with the State Government’s intent—and furthering the principle of “One Officer, One Vehicle”—the overall usage of government vehicles is to be curtailed.
Environmental and Social Responsibility
Vice Chairman Banshidhar Tiwari stated that, in light of the rising traffic congestion and pollution levels in Dehradun, this initiative will not only help reduce government expenditure but also play a pivotal role in lowering carbon emissions. He emphasized that this measure should not be viewed merely as a government mandate, but rather as a fundamental social responsibility. The primary objective of this initiative is to set a precedent at the administrative level, thereby inspiring the general public to also integrate energy conservation into their daily routines.
