The national campaign for the house-listing and housing census in Uttarakhand is progressing rapidly. So far, 70 percent of the work in the state has been completed. On Thursday, the Registrar General and Census Commissioner of India, Mr. Mrityunjay Kumar Narain, reviewed the progress of the work during a virtual meeting held with Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu and all District Magistrates.
**Targets and Achievements:**
During the meeting, it was reported that census teams have, to date, visited 1.9 million households to collect data, thereby covering a population of approximately 8.6 million. Efforts have been intensified to achieve the 100 percent target by the deadline of May 24. Among the hill districts, Champawat has demonstrated a strong performance, while Dehradun’s District Magistrate, Savin Bansal, also confirmed that work has commenced in all areas under his jurisdiction.
**Emphasis on Data Quality:**
The Registrar General emphasized that the quality of census data is of paramount importance, as future delimitation exercises and public welfare schemes are formulated based on this very data. He directed officials to scrutinize the collected data with the utmost care.
Principal Secretary R.K. Sudhanshu termed this initiative a “national campaign” and stressed the need to complete it on a priority basis. Other senior officials, including Secretary Deepak Kumar and Director Eva Ashish Srivastava, were also present at the meeting.
