A new housing policy will soon be formulated in the state. The carrying capacity of major cities and religious sites will also be determined shortly. Housing Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar issued these directives during a review meeting. Dr. Kumar, the Housing Secretary, inquired about the Uttarakhand Housing and Urban Development Authority and the district-level development authorities during the meeting. He also reviewed the progress of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 1.0 and 2.0.
Discussing in detail the status of ongoing construction, approvals, and allocations under the scheme, he instructed officials to complete all work within the stipulated timeframe so that housing can be provided to the needy in urban areas on time.
Housing Secretary Dr. Rajesh stated that formulating a new housing policy for the state is a necessity as the validity period of the housing policy issued in 2017 has expired. He directed that the new policy should specifically address the current challenges of urbanization, affordable housing, the geographical conditions of the hilly regions, and sustainable development. He also reviewed the projects of MDDA and HRDA and instructed HRDA to complete pending development works on a priority basis.
The draft prepared for the Carrying Capacity Assessment Study was also discussed.
In the meeting, instructions were given to complete all works related to the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana (Urban) 1.0 under NPMC within the stipulated timeframe of September 2026. Officials were also asked to issue formal letters within 15 days to complete all necessary procedures, including allocations.
The draft prepared for the Carrying Capacity Assessment Study was also discussed in the meeting. The Housing Secretary described it as important for the state’s major cities, pilgrimage sites, especially the Char Dham areas, and other sensitive regions. He instructed that this study be included on a priority basis in the hilly areas so that development works can be carried out while maintaining environmental balance
