Those who have their names on the voter list at two locations or submit SIR forms from two locations may face legal action. This provision is provided under the Representation of the People Act, 1950. Many voters in Uttarakhand have their votes on both the village and city voter lists. If these voters submit forms from both locations after the SIR is implemented, they could face legal action.Section 31 of the Representation of the People Act, 1950, provides for penalties for providing false information on the voter list. If a person’s name appears on the voter list in more than one location, they can face imprisonment of up to one year and a fine. Similarly, those who submit SIR forms from two locations may also face action.
To avoid this action, one must have their name removed from the voter list from one location. The Election Commission’s website provides for the deletion of their vote. You can go directly to the website and fill out Form 7 and submit it online. Once the process is complete, their name will be removed from that constituency. Since SIR has not been announced yet in Uttarakhand, this work can be done for now
