Around 1:19 am on the night of November 11, 2024, a car collided with a container turning from the front at the deserted ONGC Chowk, inflicting an unforgettable pain on Dehradun. This heartbreaking incident marked one year today (Tuesday). The dilapidated container now stands in the Circuit House outpost complex, with parts of the car still stuck to its rear. A year has passed, but the police investigation has seemingly stalled.
The charge sheet in this case has yet to be filed in court. The families of the victims continue to grieve, their tears still flowing. The accident was so horrific that the seven friends in the car couldn’t even scream, and in an instant, their bodies were strewn across the road. The journey of death for six friends began on Rajpur Road.
That night, seven friends named Guneet, Kunal Kukreja, Rishabh Jain, Navya Goyal, Atul Agarwal, Kamakshi, and Siddhesh Agarwal set out in a car into the city. Their car traveled via Ghantaghar, Wadia Institute, Balliwala Chowk, and then Govindgarh turn. At the next turn, they took a U-turn in front of the Laxman Chowk police post and resumed their journey on GMS Road. At Ballupur Chowk, a car was seen moving ahead, and the young men’s car suddenly accelerated.
After a 12-day investigation, the police apprehended the container driver.
In the next few moments, the car collided with the rear of a container heading towards Kaulagarh at ONGC Chowk. About 150 meters further, the damaged car hit a tree and overturned. Heads, arms, and torsos were scattered across this 150-meter stretch. Siddhesh Agarwal was trapped in the car, sobbing. A passerby saw him and called the police and an ambulance. Siddhesh survived, but all six of his other friends were killed in the accident. A case was filed by Siddhesh’s father at the Cantt police station, and after a 12-day investigation, the police arrested the container driver, Ramkumar.
The chargesheet was initially stalled due to Siddhesh’s statements.
The police have not yet filed a chargesheet in this case. The investigation is being conducted by the SHO, Cantt. About two months ago, it was reported that the police were unable to record Siddhesh’s statement. Consequently, the investigation was stalled. Siddhesh was unable to speak properly at that time. Now, the current SHO, Cantt, Kamal Kumar Lunthi, says he will file a chargesheet in this case soon.
Kamakshi’s father also wanted to file a case.
Advocate Tushar Singhal, father of Kamakshi, who was killed in the accident, also attempted to file a case in this matter. He was told that only one case can be filed in a single incident. He appealed to the court, but the court directed the police to include his complaint in the existing case. Advocate Singhal wants to investigate how this dilapidated container was allowed to operate on the road. Accountability must be held from the officials to its owner and other responsible individuals. He stated that he will pursue this matter further and will also make the officials parties to the case.
Singhal’s statement not recorded
Advocate Singhal stated that he was summoned several times for testimony in this case, but his statement has not been recorded. He still has not received an answer as to why this is happening. It should be noted that rules were not followed in the sale of the container. The container was initially in the name of VRC Logistics of Gurugram. It was then sold to a person named Naresh Gautam. He did not register it in his name, and then sold it to Abhishek Chaudhary of Meerut. He also did not register it in his name and sent it to Dehradun in October 2024 along with a horizontal drilling machine. That day this container was going to Kaulagadh carrying this drilling machine and meanwhile this accident happened.
