Mumbai: Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the Director General of Police (DGP) to form a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to investigate the suicide of a female doctor at the Phaltan Sub-District Hospital in Satara. Considering the serious allegations and sensitivity of the case, the SIT will be led by a female IPS officer.
Sources have stated that the name of the investigating officer will be announced after hearing from the victim’s family. The female doctor committed suicide a few days ago. In her handwritten suicide note, the doctor accused Police Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne of raping her four times.
She also accused Prashant Bankar of physically and mentally torturing her. The victim’s serious allegation that Sub-Inspector Gopal Badne raped her four times has caused a stir in the state.
The victim’s family also alleged that senior hospital officials and the police were pressuring them to alter the post-mortem report. Serious allegations against Badne and two personal assistants of a former BJP MP in this case heated up politics.
The opposition suppressed the case and accused the local police of “When the government protects criminals, who can expect justice?” Rahul Gandhi said on the Maharashtra lady doctor’s suicide. Fearing political pressure, the opposition repeatedly demanded an SIT investigation.
Recognizing the gravity of the case, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis ordered the Director General of Police to form an SIT. The two main accused in the case, Prashant Bankar and Gopal Badne, have been arrested by the police.
The court has also granted them custody. Public prosecutors had demanded a thorough investigation and a thorough examination of all details to determine whether the two accused had any connection to each other. After hearing arguments from both sides, the court granted five days’ custody.
Regarding this, BJP’s women’s state president, MLA Chitra Wagh, said, “I wholeheartedly thank our Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis for immediately ordering the formation of an SIT to provide justice to Nirbhaya’s doctor in the Phaltan case. I was confident from the beginning that justice would be served. The SIT would expedite the investigation and the culprits would be punished soon.”
