The number of pilgrims visiting the Chardham Yatra has crossed 4.5 million. After a respite from the rains, the pilgrimage has begun to pick up speed again. In addition to the Chardham, more than 13,000 pilgrims are visiting Hemkund Sahib daily.
The Chardham Yatra began on April 30th with the opening of the doors of Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines. The opening of the doors of Kedarnath on May 2nd and Badrinath on May 4th led to the full operation of the pilgrimage, but bad weather and natural disasters forced the Chardham Yatra to be postponed. The disaster in the Dharali area on August 5th completely halted the pilgrimage to Gangotri and Yamunotri shrines. Having overcome the challenges of the disaster, the Chardham Yatra has returned to normal.
Although landslide damage to roads along the Chardham Yatra route has caused inconvenience to pilgrims, devotees are still reaching the shrines for darshan. So far, more than 4.525 million pilgrims have performed the Chardham Yatra. Whereas last year, more than 4.6 million pilgrims visited.
The number of offline registrations has also increased.
Registration of pilgrims is mandatory for the Chardham Yatra. The Tourism Department has provided offline registration along with online registration. During the disaster, offline registration centers remained deserted. Now, the number of pilgrims registering is increasing. According to the Tourism Department’s report, 1,480 pilgrims were registered at the Haridwar, Rishikesh, and Herbertpur centers on Friday.
