A Dehradun man lost ₹1.10 crore after befriending and investing with a woman on Telegram and WhatsApp. Based on his complaint, the Cyber Crime Police have registered a case and launched an investigation.
DSP Ankush Mishra stated that the complainant, lured by the woman, invested money on a purported trading platform called PU Prime. However, when he attempted to withdraw, he was asked for additional funds in the name of taxes. He realized he had been duped.
This online fraud occurred between July and August 2025. On July 7th, the victim befriended a woman online, who claimed to be involved in the furniture and investment business.
She initially gained his trust by promising him a profit of approximately ₹20,000 on his investment, and then forced him to invest larger amounts. After depositing ₹1.10 crore, the victim attempted to withdraw money, but was asked for more money under the pretense of paying taxes on the total amount.
DSP Mishra stated that this is a new method of crime by cyber fraudsters. People need to be vigilant. Do not fall prey to any investment scams or click on links sent by strangers on social media platforms
