The historic ‘Kanwar Mela’ is scheduled to be held in Dehradun from July 30 to August 11, 2026. To ensure the event is grand and magnificent, District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan held a high-level meeting with departmental officials to review preparations. He issued a strict ultimatum to complete all tasks by July 25 without fail.
Key Instructions and Arrangements:
• Security and Route Plan: The fair area has been divided into 4 zones and 13 sectors. Instructions have been issued for the installation of CCTV cameras and the deployment of police personnel for security.
• Verification and Action: Directives have been issued for mandatory verification and legal action against hotels and *dhabas* operating under fictitious names. Additionally, there will be a complete ban on the sale of meat and alcohol along the pilgrimage route.
• Facilities: The Public Works Department has been tasked with road patchwork and street light repairs, while the Health Department has been instructed to keep medical teams and ambulances deployed around the clock.
• Monitoring: The Food Safety Department has been directed to make rate lists mandatory in hotels and to register cases against those charging excessive prices.
The District Magistrate emphasized that there would be no compromise regarding the faith of the pilgrims and stated that he would personally conduct on-site inspections of the preparations.
