District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan conducted a surprise inspection of the District Coronation Hospital in Dehradun on Wednesday night, revealing serious negligence and gross irregularities. Distressed by the hospital’s dilapidated state, the DM expressed strong displeasure and ordered strict action.
Patients in the ICU were found suffering from oppressive humidity and suffocation because the air conditioning was switched off; disciplinary action has been ordered against the PRO responsible for this negligence. Additionally, stock registers were found incomplete, and significant discrepancies were noted in staff attendance records. Heaps of filth littered the wards, traces of chewed tobacco spit were found in the elevator, and the condition of the toilets was appalling.
During the inspection, the DM discovered an unclaimed patient in a critical, near-death condition, with blood sugar levels having dropped to a dangerously low point. Acting promptly, the DM ensured immediate emergency medical care was provided to the patient. He also sternly reprimanded the staff for practices such as providing torn blankets to patients and making unnecessary referrals for minor ailments.
The District Magistrate has issued strict directives to the CMO and CMS to form a joint committee, immediately rectify the shortcomings, and submit a corrective action report, ensuring that the general public receives better healthcare facilities
