New Delhi: Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis met Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday. Fadnavis urged him to provide financial assistance to farmers who suffered losses due to the recent heavy rains in Maharashtra. Heavy rains and floods earlier this week in Beed and other districts in Maharashtra’s Marathwada region caused widespread damage to crops and residential properties.
After meeting PM Modi, Devendra Fadnavis said he submitted a memorandum to the Prime Minister, informing him about the situation in the state following the heavy rains. The Chief Minister said the Prime Minister has asked the state government to submit a proposal in this regard, which will be considered. The BJP’s manifesto mentions farmer loan waivers, and the government is focused on making it more effective.
Fadnavis said that the promise of loan waivers made in the manifesto will definitely be fulfilled. A committee has been formed to decide on loan waivers. Loan waivers cannot be repeated, so the focus will be on making them more effective.
He said that loans taken for Kharif crops must be repaid next year. The immediate concern for farmers is to receive assistance in their accounts. Therefore, providing this assistance will be our priority.
