A special cleanliness and awareness drive was conducted on Saturday in the Laxman Chowk and Kanwali Road areas of Dehradun under the joint aegis of the District Administration and the District Legal Services Authority. District Magistrate Dr. Ashish Chauhan and the Secretary of the District Legal Services Authority, Seema Dungrakoti, actively participated in the campaign. More than 100 people—including members of various organizations (such as the ‘Waste Warriors’), volunteers, and local citizens—took part in this massive cleanliness drive.
The District Magistrate instructed Municipal Corporation officials that merely cleaning during the campaign is insufficient; instead, a permanent system must be ensured for the collection and scientific disposal of waste at the identified sites. He emphasized the need to conduct similar campaigns regularly in other parts of the city and to involve the general public so that cleanliness becomes a mass movement.
He appealed to citizens to dispose of waste only at designated locations and to avoid littering in public areas. Additionally, instructions were issued to take effective measures to curb the use of single-use plastic and to raise public awareness regarding its adverse effects.
