The State Teachers’ Union Uttarakhand had announced an indefinite teaching boycott movement from Monday, accusing the government and the education department of not fulfilling the long-pending demands. The effect of the movement was clearly visible on the very first day. Classes were not conducted in government high schools and inter colleges across the state.
In Ramnagar, the provincial leader of the union, Navendu Mathpal, said that the main demands of the teachers include stopping the direct recruitment process of principals, issuing promotion lists at all levels and starting the transfer process. He says that in the last two years, the government and departmental officials have not fulfilled the promises made to the teachers. Due to this, the teachers were forced to take the path of agitation.
Mathpal said that this movement will move forward in a phased manner. The teaching boycott has started from Monday. After this, there will be a sit-in demonstration at the block headquarters on August 25, a sit-in demonstration at the district headquarters on August 27 and a demonstration at the divisional headquarters on August 29. Continuously increasing the scope of the movement, a sit-in demonstration will be held at the district education directorates from September 1.

Meanwhile, the Kaushalam program starting from Monday in Ramnagar block has also been postponed due to the strike of the Government Teachers Association. The official class says that the decision to proceed with the program will depend on the situation of the movement and the availability of teachers.
There is a state of concern among students and parents due to the sudden closure of studies in schools. In many places, students reached the school, but had to return due to lack of teaching work. Parents have appealed to both the government and teachers to resolve the issue through dialogue. So that the studies of children are not affected.
The provincial leader of the union, Navendu Mathpal reiterated that the agitation is the compulsion of the teachers. He said that the agitation will continue until the government gives concrete assurance in writing.
