Ramnagar: Another case of increasing conflict between humans and wild animals has come to light in Ramnagar area of Nainital district. On Friday evening, a leopard suddenly attacked an elderly man working in the field in Ampokhara area of Terai Western Forest Division under village Pirumdara Himmatpur New Colony. The elderly man was seriously injured in this attack, who was immediately admitted to the government hospital by his family.
According to local villagers, 55-year-old Uday Raj Singh, who is a resident of village Pirumdara Himmatpur New Colony, was working in his field as usual. Then suddenly a leopard coming out of the forest attacked him. The attack was so strong that the elderly fell on the ground bleeding. Hearing his screams, the family members and other villagers present in the nearby fields rushed to the spot and started making noise. Seeing the crowd of villagers and hearing the voice, the leopard left the elderly man in critical condition and ran back towards the forest.
After the incident, the family immediately admitted the seriously injured Uday Raj Singh to the government hospital for treatment. At present, his condition is said to be critical. There is an atmosphere of great panic among the villagers due to the presence of leopard in the village and the increasing incidents. Villagers say that for the last few days, the movement of leopard was being seen around the village. Many people had also informed the forest department about this. But no concrete action was taken by the department. Now after this attack, the people of the village are scared and are demanding immediate action from the forest department. The villagers said that leopard has now become synonymous with terror and a major incident can happen at any time.
Manoj Rawat, a resident of the village, said that this area has been affected by the activities of leopards earlier also. Many times people have seen leopards roaming around the fields and roads. He said that the villagers are living in the shadow of fear all the time. Especially in the evening, people shy away from going out of their homes.
Giving information on this entire matter, Prakash Arya, DFO of Terai Western Forest Division, said that after the incident, patrolling has been increased on the spot. The department is continuously patrolling and soon the location of the leopard will be tracked and action will be initiated to catch it.
