After investigating money laundering in the scholarship scam, the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Friday filed a chargesheet against Vardhman Education Society in the Special ED Court. The accused also include the names of society president Sharad Gupta and the then officials of Haridwar Social Welfare Department.
A press note issued by the ED has revealed that the Institute of Management Studies Roorkee and IMS Institute of Technology Roorkee are run under Vardhman Educational Society. A scam was committed in the scholarship amount in both these institutes. Cases were registered in this matter at SIDCUL police station in Haridwar.
The investigation revealed that Vardhman Educational Society, in connivance with the officials of the Social Welfare Department of Haridwar, obtained scholarship amount of about one crore rupees through fake admissions in the name of SC-ST students during the period from 2011-12 to 2016-17.
This amount was allegedly usurped by the society and its trustees. This caused huge loss to the government treasury. ED had also confiscated the house and land of Vardhman Educational Society in March 2024. This scam was revealed in the year 2014. In this, ED started investigation of money laundering in the year 2022. Earlier, ED has filed chargesheet against many other officials and institutions
