Ramnagar: A grand program was organized on the occasion of completion of 150 years of establishment of Jim Corbett National Park. This event was held in Ramnagar Municipal Auditorium. In which Uttarakhand’s Forest and Environment Minister Subodh Uniyal was the chief guest. On this occasion, Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal said that the Uttarakhand government is going to start the Corbett Award. He said that this award will be given to those who do special work in the field of forest and environment.
In the program held on the occasion of establishment of Jim Corbett National Park, senior officials of the Forest Department, officers of Corbett Tiger Reserve, local public representatives, wildlife lovers, environmental activists and school children also participated in large numbers. The program started with a documentary film based on the life and contribution of Jim Corbett. Through this film, it was told how Jim Corbett played the role of a wildlife protector from a hunter. How he laid the foundation of tiger conservation in India. Cultural presentations were organized after the documentary.
In the program, the Indian Postal Department released a special commemorative cover based on the 150th birth anniversary of Jim Corbett. Which was released by Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal. In his address, Forest Minister Subodh Uniyal said that Jim Corbett was not only a hunter but he was the first person who left hunting and took the path of forest and tiger conservation. His life is still an inspiration for us. He announced that from now on, the Uttarakhand government will honor individuals and institutions who make special contributions in the field of environment and wildlife conservation with the Jim Corbett Award every year. This award will be given with the aim of promoting environmental awareness and ensuring people’s participation in conservation work.
The Forest Minister said that the Uttarakhand government is giving top priority to the conservation of wildlife and forests. We have to keep nature safe and protected for the coming generations. This is Jim Corbett’s legacy. We have to take it forward. Subodh Uniyal said that Jim Corbett’s thinking and dedication still inspires us to work towards the conservation of forests and tigers. At the end of the program, forest workers, forest guards and local voluntary organizations active in wildlife conservation were also honored by the Corbett administration.
