Dr. Geeta Khanna, Chairperson of Uttarakhand Child Rights Protection Commission*, met a 5-year-old innocent child admitted in the PICU ward of Doon Hospital, who was brutally beaten up. It is also a deep blow to our social structure.
Expressing deep sorrow over this heartbreaking incident, Dr. Khanna said,
When I reached to meet the child, the Maxson owner was also there and he told that the woman had come here recently.
The child’s father told that the woman is mentally ill, but she hid this information. First she came three months ago, and after that suddenly her father-in-law fell ill. Due to the death of her father-in-law, she did not come for some time. She returned just a few days before the incident.
According to the neighbours, the accused woman asked the mother for a knife two days before the incident and said that the child was very cute, then after locking him in the room, she targeted him. Ignoring this abnormal behaviour of hers also proved to be costly.
> *”In such cases, it is seen that people coming from outside states settle in Devbhoomi in the absence of verification and commit such heinous crimes. Not getting police verification done by the landlords is a serious negligence.”*
He appealed to the administration and society that:
1. **No room should be given on rent to any outsider without police verification.**
2. **The old criminal or mental health record of that person should be verified compulsorily.**
3. **Local administration and common citizens will have to be vigilant to prevent recurrence of
such incidents.**
