Dehradun: Operation Clean campaign will be run from Saturday against fake and poor quality medicines in the state. Under this campaign, pharma companies, wholesale and retail shops will be inspected and samples will be sent for testing. On the instructions of Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami, the Food Safety and Drug Administration Department has formed a Quick Response Team (QRT) for the campaign. The team constituted under the chairmanship of Assistant Drug Controller Hemant Singh Negi includes eight members.
Health Secretary Dr. R. Rajesh Kumar said that the objective of the campaign is to make the state drug-free Uttarakhand along with providing quality medicines. The campaign will be run under the Drugs and Cosmetics Act 1940 and Rule 1945. Under this, strict action will be taken against those making fake medicines across the state. Action will be taken by monitoring those who manufacture, store and sell fake, substandard, misbranded and narcotic drugs. Apart from this, intensive monitoring will be done in other border areas along the India-Nepal border.

Districts divided into two categories for inspection
Under the campaign, districts have been divided into two categories for drug inspection work. Category-one includes Dehradun, Haridwar, Nainital, Udham Singh Nagar, Pauri, and category-two includes Almora, Rudraprayag, Tehri, Uttarkashi, Champawat. Every week, samples of medicines received from the districts will be tested on priority basis. The department has started a toll free helpline 18001804246 for information on fake medicines.
