A tragic accident occurred near the ‘N-bend’ on the Bangapani-Madkot road in Pithoragarh. Three people lost their lives after a car plunged into a gorge. One of the deceased is reported to be an Army soldier, while the condition of another individual is described as critical.
According to reports, the accident took place on Sunday. A group of youths traveling from Madkot to Munsyari in an Innova car lost control of their vehicle near the ‘N-bend’—located one kilometer before Bangapani—causing it to fall into a gorge. Upon receiving the information, locals and police personnel rushed to the scene, where two youths were found dead: Laxman Singh Negi (son of Ram Singh Negi), a native of Dhuratoli (Munsyari) and current resident of GIC Pithoragarh; and Ankit Pandey (27) (son of Basant Pandey), a resident of Daula, Pithoragarh.
Meanwhile, the critically injured individuals—Ayush Pant (son of Narendra Pant) and Devesh Pant, both residents of Pithoragarh—were initially transported in private vehicles and subsequently transferred to a ‘108’ ambulance en route to the Pithoragarh District Hospital. However, Ayush Pant succumbed to his injuries near Askot while in transit. Among the deceased, Laxman Singh Negi was serving in the Army Medical Corps (AMC). The incident has cast a pall of gloom over the region.
