On Saturday night, a car crashed into a shop’s counter and parked motorcycles on Dakpathar Road in the Kotwali area. The intoxicated occupants of the car then attacked shopkeepers with glass bottles. One of the car’s occupants, Anshul Chauhan, a resident of Jeevangadh, stopped passersby and began beating them. When police officers arrived at the scene, he physically assaulted them, even tearing off the stars from the police officer’s uniform. The police officers managed to subdue the young man with great difficulty and took him to the market police station. Based on two separate complaints, an FIR has been registered against Anshul Chauhan and Keshav Chawla, a resident of Pahari Gali.
According to reports, a speeding car was coming from the direction of Dakpathar towards Vikasnagar. The car suddenly went out of control and veered towards the shops. The car hit earthen lamps, other goods, the counter of a fast-food center, and parked motorcycles outside the shops. Following this, two intoxicated young men started throwing glass bottles at the shopkeepers. During this incident, Sanjay Yadav’s wife, Reena Yadav, was injured, and several other people, including an elderly person, also sustained injuries.
Anshul Chauhan then became even more aggressive, taking off his shirt and stopping passersby, two-wheeler and four-wheeler drivers, and beating them. He assaulted approximately 15 people. Meanwhile, the Cheetah police arrived at the scene and tried to control the two men, but they started beating the police officers as well. Upon receiving the information, Market Police Station in-charge Mayank Tyagi arrived at the scene. The accused, Anshul Chauhan, tore off the stars from his uniform. The police station in-charge and other police officers then started pushing the two young men towards the police station. Even then, the accused continued to be aggressive and violent.
Upon receiving the information, CO Vikasnagar Bhaskar Lal Shah, Senior Sub-Inspector Shishupal Singh Rana, Herbertpur Police Station in-charge Sanoj Kumar, and other police officers from the Kotwali police station also arrived at the police station. Reena Yadav, a resident of Dakpathar Road, and Charanjeet, a resident of Mandi Chowk, filed complaints against the two accused. The police have registered an FIR against both of them under the relevant sections. Both have undergone medical examinations. Police on high alert due to fear of communal tension
Reena Yadav is the wife of Sanjay Yadav. Sanjay Yadav was accused of assaulting Muslim youths from Jammu and Kashmir. He was sent to jail after an FIR was registered against him. Following this, Reena Yadav, along with Rudra Sena and other organizations, went to the police station and filed a complaint. She alleged that the Muslim youths had made indecent gestures and grabbed her hand. She said that when her husband protested, a fight ensued, and people from the surrounding area joined in. Due to the fear of communal tension following the incident involving Reena Yadav, a crowd gathered at the scene and at the police outpost. The police were also on high alert, although it was later revealed that both the youths were Hindu.
Misbehavior with Charanjeet at the police outpost
While filing a complaint at the police outpost, the accused Anshul Chauhan misbehaved with the victim Charanjeet. He even made offensive remarks. The police officers severely reprimanded the accused, but he was not ready to listen to anyone. Following the incident, a large crowd of traders and other people gathered at the market police outpost. The police were also vigilant due to the possibility of a dispute. Senior Sub-Inspector Shishupal Singh Rana dispersed the crowd from the police outpost premises.
Atmosphere of fear among the people after the incident
Generally, such cases of hooliganism do not occur in Vikasnagar. This is the first case where a person beat up passersby without any reason. He even beat up the police officers who came to control him. People in the market said that it no longer feels safe to walk on the road. Anshul Chauhan, who was intoxicated, was beating up anyone he encountered on the road. There are bloodstains everywhere on the road. The blood belongs to people who neither knew the accused nor opposed him; they were simply passing by.
Demand for strictest action
Sanjay Gupta, President of the Traders’ Association, Senior Vice President Himkar Gupta, and General Secretary Bharat Kalra said that the police should take the strictest possible action to prevent the recurrence of such incidents. They said that such incidents are a challenge to law and order. Strict action is the only effective way to curb such incidents.
An FIR has been registered against both the accused under the relevant sections. The strictest possible action will be taken against the accused.
