Bajrang Dal activists created a ruckus in Kotdwar over a shop being named “Baba.” Following an altercation two days ago, Bajrang Dal workers from Dehradun staged a strong protest in Kotdwar on Saturday. Upon receiving the information, senior police officers arrived at the scene and somehow managed to pacify them and take them to the police station. Patel Marg remained blocked for about 20 minutes.
Bajrang Dal activists objected to the name “Baba” for a clothing shop located on Patel Marg. When the Bajrang Dal workers arrived to protest the name, the shopkeeper and his associates allegedly beat them up. A video of the incident is rapidly going viral on social media. Seeing the matter escalating, both sides have filed complaints against each other with the police. The viral video is said to be two days old.
The name wasn’t changed even after the shop relocated.
According to the information received, some Bajrang Dal activists arrived at a shop on Patel Marg on Monday. The activists claimed that they had previously objected to the shop being named after “Baba.” They said they had been assured that the name would be changed when the shop relocated, but the name remained unchanged even after the move. In the video, the activists are also heard saying that in Kotdwar, the name “Baba” belongs only to Siddhabali Baba. In the viral video, a man identifying himself as Mohammad Deepak arrives at the scene.
He says that the shop is 30 years old, and therefore, they shouldn’t interfere in this matter. It is alleged that this man, Mohammad Deepak, assaulted the Bajrang Dal activists. Kotwali Police Station in-charge Pradeep Negi said that both sides have filed complaints against each other at the police station. The matter is under investigation.
