The lack of rain and snowfall in Uttarakhand is directly impacting temperatures. The absence of precipitation is causing a dry, biting cold across the state. Cold waves and frost in the mountainous regions, and fog in the plains, have further exacerbated the situation.
According to the forecast issued by the Meteorological Department, a yellow alert for dense fog has been issued for January 9th in the plains districts of Dehradun, Udham Singh Nagar, and Haridwar, as well as in Nainital, Champawat, and Pauri. Although sunshine during the day in the hilly areas is providing some relief from the cold, there is little hope of respite from the dry cold for the time being. Looking ahead, the weather is expected to remain dry across the state until January 14th.
Looking at Thursday’s data, the maximum temperature remained close to normal due to sunshine throughout the day. However, the minimum night temperature was below normal. In Dehradun, the maximum daytime temperature was recorded at 21.6 degrees Celsius, two degrees higher than normal. The minimum night temperature was 4.4 degrees Celsius, two degrees lower than normal. Similar conditions prevailed in other parts of the state
