The state is witnessing a continuous rise in incidents of wildlife attacks. To prevent these attacks, the Forest Department plans to purchase equipment, and a proposal worth ₹11 crore has been sent to the State Disaster Management Department.
According to Forest Department data, 533 wildlife attacks occurred between January and December 15 this year. These attacks resulted in 63 deaths and 470 injuries. Several divisions are currently considered highly vulnerable, with bear attacks being particularly frequent.
It is believed that increasing resources is essential to prevent these incidents and strengthen security measures. The Forest Department has sent a proposal for ₹11 crore to the State Disaster Management Department, and the equipment will be purchased after the funds are released.
Planned Equipment Purchases
The Forest Department plans to purchase equipment necessary for both communication and security. This includes wireless communication devices, tranquilizer guns to sedate wild animals, solar and floodlights, and other equipment. Chief Conservator of Forests Ranjan Mishra says that all efforts are being made to prevent wildlife attacks, and efforts are also underway to increase resources. The proposal for the purchase of equipment has been sent to the State Disaster Management Department as part of these efforts
